Chelsea Map Scale: 4/10
The article this map was seen in had to explain what it was representing. Why? Because this map is hard to read and interpret. It is purely a swirl of colors to accompany a somewhat dull article. One might easily misinterpret the colors for representing temperatures, not concentrations of an oil spill.
The lat/long numbers along the grid are placed haphazardly, and it is my opinion that the white areas should not read, “clouds” in large comic sans font when they are already written below in smaller text. I can only assume that the editor decided it was necessary to let the public know that in a satellite image areas of white need A LOT of textual representation to get the message across.
I do appreciate the faint arrows representing currents. I suppose if you look VERY close , you may not need the article to supplement.
