Chelsea Map Scale: 9/10
Now, let’s compare this map with the first one. Although the maps are not representing the same data (the first is oil spill, this is wave heights) it uses a similar layout and this one is MUCH clearer.
- First, the lat/long numbers are clearly lined up along the side of the map, not obnoxiously in the middle distracting and confusing the eye. (And, there is a compass direction associated with the number making it a lat/long and not just an arbitrary number)
- Second, there is a clear explanation of the colors and symbols at the bottom of the map
- Third, its ever-changing by the hour. Click the photo to see that on the website!
- Forth, the location is very clear. The continents are one solid color, not to be confused with the changing colors of the data. The previous map’s continents are white, which can be confused with the “clouds” they so eagerly labeled.
Overall, I think it’s far better. However, I do wonder why the Pacific ocean is green like the continents. One point deduction!
